Dependency on Him in a self help world!

Running the race that God has for us is not an easy task. With the world pulling at our flesh makes the journey extremily difficult and challenging. However, by the power of the Holy Spirit we are strengthend, we are given peace, our thirsty dry mouths are refreshed.

God’s sole desire is for us to come to Him, seek Him, ask Him, love Him, want, desire, and depend on Him Always!  Jonathan Edwards wrote in his book “ Religous Affections” “gracious affections, the higher they are raised, the more is a spiritual appetite and longing of soul after spiritual attainments increased. On the contrary, false affections rest satisfied in themselves.

The more a true saint loves God with a gracious love, the more he desires to love Him, and the more uneasy is he at his want of love to Him; the more he hates sin, the more he desires to hate it, and laments that he has so much remaining love to it; the more he mourns for sin, the more he longs to mourn for sin; the more his heart is broke, the more he desires it should be broke the more he thirsts and longs after God and holiness, the more he longs to long, and breathe out his very soul in longings after God; the kindling and raising of gracious affections is like kindling a flame; the higher it is raised, the more ardent it is, and the more it burns, the more vehemently does it tend to seek to burn.”

Todays society teaches us, even implores us that we can do it ourselves. That we should pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. We can not.

Amos 8:11-12 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, not a famine of bread nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord but shall not find it.”

We have given up the truth of God for a lie. We have chosen to serve creatures rather than the Creator. Rom 1:25.  A denial of Gods existance and HIs right to be obeyed and glorified is blasphemy.

We are always being challenged to conform to the ways in which the world would have us do things, and not according to Gods will. Lev 20:7 Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. Set yourselves apart for the Lord. Rom 12:2 and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

What perspective do we have? And, what are our expectations? We are to contend for the faith. Are we willing to settle for instant gratification or do we wish eternal glory? You decide…
